One Year at Poke: What We’ve Learnt

Becca and Jack are celebrating their 1 year Poke-iversary, and over the past year they’ve grown into a core members of the team that we all rely on. Their creativity, expressiveness and, of course, Becca’s weekly bakes have brought such a positive energy to the Poke team in a short space of time.

In this Q&A, they share a few things they’ve learned throughout the year, their highlights and the best lunch spots they’ve found in Liverpool!

Hear from Jack:

What has been your highlight of the past year?

Rome, can’t beat a free holiday. This was the first big team event since joining and it was a really good opportunity to connect with the rest of the team outside of the office. We also did some fun workshops whilst we were there. creative fun in the sun.

What project pushed you the most creatively?

The Cillo Family’s Italian Expeirence was a big one, the challenge was making the connection between Italy and Liverpool. I ended up finding similarities in the architecture and landmarks and used it to create the campaign.

What has been your favourite part about being part of the Poke team?

Definitely coming in to Becca’s freshly baked cakes.

What is your best go to lunch spot?

Listo Burrito is pretty good. Slow cooked beef brisket is the go to.

What is your favourite thing on your desk?

I’ve got a copy of a book that I made for my other half. We had a bit of a nightmare getting our bathroom done so I wrote a mystery story about that and illustrated it.

What were your main goals when you first started poke and how have they changed going forward?

It was a big change when I first started, i’d gone from pretty much full time remote to full time in the office so I wanted to settle in and get used to the agency life. Now it’s about pushing things further creatively, getting more involved in the strategic thinking behind what we do, and putting myself out there a bit more.

Hear from Becca:

What has been your highlight of the past year?

Definitely Rome, it’s an amazing place, and it was genuinely really fun just going on holiday with everyone. I had a great time.

What project pushed you the most creatively?

The EFL Rainbow ball, which I did frame by frame. Just working out how everything was going to come in and how that looks was really tricky. I also made my own digital paint brushes with real paint, which was new to me, but really cool.

What has been your favourite part about being part of the Poke team?

I really love to bake, so bringing in bakes for everyone (usually once a week if I can!). Is something I really enjoy sharing with the team, and everyone seems pretty happy to finish it all off.

What is your best go to lunch spot?

I always love a pub lunch, usually at the railway or sometimes we go to the Wetherspoons and sit on the rooftop if the weather’s nice.

What is your favourite thing on your desk?

I have loads of little craft projects ive done on my desk but my favourite has got to be the lino cut that I did with Na when I first started.

What were your main goals when you first started poke and how have they changed going forward?

At first I just wanted to do more motion stuff and just generally improve. Now I do loads of motion stuff and have even branched into a bit of 3D. I’m still learning new things every day and always looking to improve, and I don’t think that mindset will ever really change.

At Poke, growth isn’t just something we deliver for our clients, it’s something we push for our team too. Whether it’s learning new skills, stepping into bigger roles, or simply getting more confident day-to-day, we make space for everyone to develop and back them all the way.
